Recorded Absence
The idea of memory is not one that is new to the world of photography, we use it to preserve our memories, treasured moments, new places, and familiar faces. The loss of those memories even with the physical evidence of photography cannot replace the emotional connection to a place and time. When the memory fades, the connection disappears, and with it all evidence of your place in the world. Who am I without my memories? Am I the same? Have I become different?
Recorded Absence is about my place in a world without my memory, and what that means for my future. Are we able to move beyond and accept the loss for what it is, or are we dwelling in the past. Many of my memories are lost to an accident which caused me to have seizures and an anxiety disorder from ages 8-15. These images are my way of owning those lost memories, moving beyond my own limitations and becoming free of my fears.
Recorded Absence Portfolio (seen below) was accepted as a finalist into the Academy Of Art University Spring 2020 School of Photography Art Show.
